Movie #11: Desert Flower

I haven't read the critically acclaimed book, so prior to seeing this movie I expected this to be a coming of age film about a girl discovering the highs and lows of the western world and the high fashion industry.
O, how I was wrong.
This movie was incredibly moving. I'm always amazed by movies based in true events (The Blind Side, Unstoppable, 127 hours (coming soon) ), they truly put Hollywood 'blockbusters' to shame. Obviously if you have read the original by Waris Dirie then you will know that the central issue is Female genital cutting (*I have to preach caution when opening this link*). I'm not sure how to sum up my thoughts about this issue, but the movie does a great job of addressing what should be definitely be a banned practice globally.
I give this movie a 9/10 for being an amazing story, beautiful cast, and informative content. Extra points because Waris was strong enough to overcome the beliefs of her family/country/culture to successfully bring this issue onto a global spotlight

Movie #10: Burlesque

"It takes a legend..to make a star". It took one hunky man, amazing dancing and costumes, and the amazing vocal genius that is Christine Aguilera to make sitting through 129 minutes of watching a very expressionless, deep voiced, heavy lidded Cher bearable. If your not into musicals, which thankfully I am, then the only bit of this movie you might find entertaining is the amazingly tastefully portrayal of the otherwise provocative burlesque performances, with the accompaniment of the Aguilera's astonishing vocals. How such a big voice can come out of such a small body baffles me. Aguilera looked super fit in every costume she wore, a vast difference from what we see on blogs and in the magazines; my favorite of her costumes would probably have been  the pastel green strapless dress that made her look ethereal, however for some reason the lower half of her body did look like it had some special effects done to it, but....comme ci, comme ça.
I wont bother to comment on Cher, I might offend.
Movie rating 7 1/2 out of 10, for the dancing, costumes, singing, and Cam Gigandet
au revoir

Movie #9: LOL (Laughing Out Loud)

I LOVE international films (e.g. The Millennium Series). Especially when the language is as romantic and beautiful as French. This movie had me thinking about it for days after I watched it. Incredibly good looking cast. I haven't been to France yet, but from the French stereotype to this movie, I now assume that all French people are incredibly good looking, metro, and down to earth chic. Jérémy Kapone who plays hunky best friend Maël is another hot French find (see also Gaspard Ulliel).
I give this movie a rating of 9/10 for any teenager/chic parent who likes a teen angst movie.
If you don't like international films set in a beautiful city like Paris, or if your not into watching
an incredibly attractive cast go through what every teenager goes through, then this movie
 isn't for you
au revoir

Movie#8: The Dilemma

Another movie with an incredibly sexy man...
No, not Mr Kevin James :) but Mr Channing Tatum. From the loose black beanies and white wife beaters, to the smiley face on his butt cheek, to his insanely cute sensitivity/crying. I don't know what it is but when a man cries on screen/anytime/anywhere, I find it incredibly attractive!
Unfortunately for The Dilemma Mr Tatum was the saving grace. While the movie had some great vintage, mouth watering Chevrolet cars, Queen Latifah had some disturbingly non-lady like lines about women wood. I couldn't help but look at Winona Ryder and wonder if she stole any of the movie props as she left, however an added plus, she did play the manipulative bitch of a wife pretty good. Vince Vaughn was Vince Vaughn; summarizing his "dilemma's" in incredibly fast spoken dialogue while towering over the other cast. In fact, near the end of the movie, just before they're about to enter the meeting the whole movie's been building towards, he doesn't even fit in the screen!
alas, movie rating of  7/10. Movie was relate-able and entertaining. Not a 10 or even a 9 because Vaughn's character made the movie an extra hour longer than necessary by not just telling the truth in the first place

Movie #7: Gulliver's Travels 3-D

While some comedic routines can get old (Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller for example) Jack Black's modern rendition of Gulliver's Travels wasn't half bad. His comedic approach to being taken over by an army of little people was refreshingly funny all considering. A bit of an overall kill when Black's character started rocking out like Black does in nearly every movie (excluding King Kong), so therefore my rating is a 6 1/2 out of 10. An entertaining movie, but nothing we haven't seen before
au revoir

Movie #6: Love and Other Drugs

The hotness that is Jake Gyllenhaal is what made this movie. From his suave fitted suits, to when he was fully naked, there wasn't anything I could fault Mr. Gyllenhaal on. The only downside to the movie was the fact that just watching the trailer could have told you every detail of the movie, but... alas.
Rating 8/10 for being funny and entertaining. If only Anne Hathaway stopped dribbling on and on everytime she spoke, then it could've been a 9 :)
